Balearic seahorses

Balearic Sea Horses Project

The Palma Aquarium Foundation had, for years, been interested in working with seahorses after becoming aware of the importance of these species in the archipelago’s natural marine systems and the need to undertake conservation measures as their populations in the Mediterranean could be suffering a serious decline. In response to the growing concern, Fundación Palma Aquarium and the Banca March Group have developed the Cavallets de Mar Balears initiative, subsidized by the sustainable Mediterranean Fund. A 2-year project that consists of trying to reproduce the two most common seahorse species in the Balearic Islands in a controlled artificial environment.
